As many of you know, I don't have a ton of free time this summer...( I know, no pity from my non-teacher friends), but as Chris and I talked, we had some home improvement projects that desperately needed to be completed. So we designated 'man week' where he could get these things done while I watched Peyton.
Project 1- Fence on two sides. Late in the spring, our pathetic fence on one side, blew over. We rigged it up temporarily, but it needed to be replaced. So that was one... and talking to our neighbor on the other side, he wanted that done as well. So Chris tore down a re-build probably 75-100 feet of fence including re-doing a gate for one neighbor.
Project 2- Adirondack Chairs. A year or so ago, Chris started building these awesome adirondack chairs, but they got stalled due to lack of money and time to finish. Well out they came for man week. One is currently finished and out on the deck. It's a beauty and I can't wait for the other to be finished along with the little table
Project 3 (here's where we get into projects that were never really planned... mini-fence in front of the garden. With all recycled materials from the old fences (and left overs from the new fence) Chris is going to build a small fence in front of the garden space. This will be a nice divided to at least deter Peyton from the garden as she becomes more mobile in the yard :)
Project 4- Truck rails. So... Chris's dad had a truck that he built wooden rails for once upon a time. This way you can more easily haul larger loads of stuff. So now that we once again have surplus supplies... Chris would like to build rails for the truck like his dad did. Should be pretty simplistic, however, as he's discovered, the posts he thought he'd be able to use, were too big, so he has to do more work than intended...
Project 5- Kind of new Deck! Preface: We have talked about wanting a bigger/nicer deck since we've owned the house, but it always comes out to be too expensive and not a priority. Well, while I was in Sacramento for work Chris drew up three options for our deck, ranging from $80 for a clean up job to $2500 for a newer and bigger deck. Plus one more option in the middle. We ultimately decided on the middle. Basically, we're going to leave the bones in place, and just replace the parts you see, like the decking and rails. This will make a nicer surface to be out on. And now we really have to do it, because Chris has already worked on demoing the current deck :) Now he did remove the rail to the front first, and we both LOVE how open it feels... We've tinkered with the idea of just making a giant set of stairs down instead of closing it off... but that's more money and design time... we'll see...
SO all in all, Chris and I have the home improvement bug and we're getting a lot done in little spurts while I'm not working :)
