And the thunder rolls.... And the lightning strikes....

Nothin' like a little Garth Brooks rolling through my mind as the lightning and thunder storm passes over head. Chris and I were totally entranced for the last 15 minutes watching the torrential downpour from our upstairs windows: hail, thunder, lightning, and sheets of rain hard and fast. Fascinating. We'd move to look from the backyard to the front. I just hope my garden fairs ok! I'll have to assess damage tomorrow when the flood back there has subsided...

You know, it should be like no big deal to see these storms, they were fairly regular down in Florida. The difference there, it was downright balmy outside when they occured. I can remember Cody going outside during the storm and standing under the drain pipe from our gutter (no connection to the gutter, just a hole from the gutter to the ground) and Cody would pretend he was taking a shower. Up here in Washington, BRRR, I bet that rain isn't too pleasant, but what an odd memory to crop up, I was probably like 12. How long ago my Florida life seems...

I don't miss it, but I do miss certain aspects of it... like I had a couple of really great girlfriends who I'd love to connect with again, but being that they're women, they've probably married and if they're on facebook I can't seem to find them... I had another pretty good group of friends from 8th grade that I was pretty close with. We had some good times that last year that I was there. Family... well I miss that I wasn't there for Cody growing up, I would like to hope he would be down a different path than he is now if I was, but I had to leave for me. I also miss that now that Bill has a family, I'm not there to see them... As for my mom... hard to say, but I can't say that I miss her. I wish it were different, but neither of us has really worked on restoring the broken relationship that I left behind. Perhaps it's selfish of me... but I don't think as the kid, I should have to do all the work and I did try. For every important life event (graduation high school and college, wedding, baby, etc) I have sent some sort of notice and all for nothing... I don't so much as get a response... I can just hope that Peyton and I NEVER end up in that sort of situation. I can't fathom that happening, but I would hope that even if we ended up in a difficult situation, as her mom, I would like to think that I would be the bigger person and take steps to restore what gets broken.

Wierd thoughts from a post that started about the weather... P.S. I just heard thunder... but I see blue sky coming....
